My name is Spencer Kennedy and I am elated to join Santa Sophia Academy as the Middle Grade Spelling and Vocabulary, Literature, and Language Arts teacher. I work with all middle schoolers in the listed content areas as well as focusing on religion with the 7th graders. You can usually spot me running with students during pick up with my straw hat!
I was born and raised in San Diego. Growing up, I first attended Blessed Sacrament Parish School for grades K-2. I then went to Benchley-Weinberger Elementary, Lewis Middle, and Patrick Henry High in Del Cerro. I currently live in the same area with my little 5 pound chihuahua, Rosie. My interests include reading, gardening, visiting museums, playing board games, and cooking. I love hosting dinners and planning board game nights with my family and loved ones. My favorite color is dark green and I love growing roses in particular.
I have worked in education for 4 years, supporting students with learning differences and leading my own classrooms. I earned my BS in Secondary Education with a minor in ESOL education from Western Oregon University. Before coming to Santa Sophia, I taught and assisted students at High Tech Elementary Explorer. I completed my student teaching in Oregon using a co-teaching model at LaCreole Middle School.
I began my educational journey with Catholic education and it has given me one of the great foundations for my education, my personal growth and especially my faith. It helped support me in my introduction to our church when I knew little. Ever since that time, my faith has continued to grow alongside my loved ones’. After returning to San Diego from Oregon, I was searching for a new parish to call my own and have settled on Santa Sophia. If you see me before or after the 8am Sunday mass, don’t hesitate to say hello!
